Wood Badge, the scouting movement’s premier adult training course was developed so that leaders could learn the skills and methods of scouting. The course is designed to be a mountaintop experience for the course participants. In addition to a fine training course, all the traditions and heritage of scouting are stressed and used to inspire those attending. Wood Badge is used throughout the scouting world. Tens of thousands of scouters proudly wear the Gilwell neckerchief, woggle, and beads of Wood Badge-trained leaders. Since it was begun by Lord Baden-Powell (in 1919), it carries with it great prestige. With these thoughts in mind, it is only fitting that BSA’s National Wood Badge courses be held at the pinnacle of scouting mountainside adventure – Philmont!
